Good Ideas vs God Ideas - Trusting in God
I just complete a plan on the YouVersion Bible app which can be found below called "Good Ideas Vs. God Ideas In Business". However, this is not just related for business.
The amazing thing about God is, even though he has the power to create the heavens and earth out of nothing, he is not too big to have a relationship with each and every one of us.
Proverbs 3: 5-6 says
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
In this blog post, I will go over what makes an idea a God idea, why God ideas aren't always good ideas and how you can get more God ideas.
God Idea Characteristic #1: God Ideas will align with His Word and won’t contradict it.
- God will not give us an idea that does not align with His Word.
For those who are new to the faith, a great place to start it by reading the Gospels. They are the first four books in the new testament and they are all about the life of Jesus.
Another great resource is the Bible Project. They cover a lot of in depth themes and patterns in the bible but, present them in a clear and understandable way. It was a great tool for me when I was a new Christian.
- Jesus said the two most important commandments are to love God and love people.
If you are making a decision about anything, you should first ask your self, is this going to dishonour other people or God?
- Glorifying God comes first before profit or any other measure.
- Search scripture if you are unsure.
God Idea Characteristic #2: God ideas are often bigger than what you’re capable of doing on your own.
- God Ideas will align with your skills, interests, passions, but they will often also be ideas that force you to rely on God. (scripture above).
- Feeding the 5,000.
As a full time student and working part time at McDonalds. I had to save for a long time to be able to purchase the capital equipment needed to producing clothing for Son of Man Skate. One of the big purchases was the heat press. I was nervous before purchasing it so I prayed. I felt that as I prayed, god told me that this heat press will be a tool I can use to donate 5,000 t shirts to the poor just as Jesus fed the 5,000.
At the time of writing this, I currently purchase the blank t-shirts we sell for $20. Multiply that by 5000 and that is $100,000 worth of t-shirts. To me this dream is still crazy but, I believe it is a God idea.
God Idea Characteristic #3: God ideas may defy your common sense, logic, or previous experience.
2 Chronicles 2:5-30
When Jehoshaphat found out about the invasion of Judah, his first response was to seek a God idea not a good idea. God told Jehoshaphat that the battle was his and Jehoshaphat’s army would not need to fight. Jehoshaphat sent out a choir in front of the army worshipping God. When the army heard the choir they span in to confusion and began to kill one another. This idea doesn’t make sense but it was a God idea.
How to get God ideas:
God ideas can be revealed through, prayer, worship and even other people. Ask God for ideas. The most important thing you can do is spend time developing your relationship with God. Submit to him, and he will direct your path. The more you do this, the more sensitive you will become to the word of God.
Take note whenever God put an idea in your heart. It may be a God idea but for another time or another person you meet in the future.
